Terry Hicks....Proving Himself
By: T. J. Layne

WILLARD, KENTUCKY-Not only is Terry Hicks one of the nicest guys in the pits, but he is also proven himself as one of the best drivers in the Southern Ohio/Eastern Kentucky area. In the first of our reviews of drivers seasons we will look at the 2004 season for Terry Hicks, and show how he has proven himself to be a contender in big name Late Model racing.

Coming out of Willard, Kentucky, Terry Hicks makes his home track Willard Speedway, a track which he has had a lot of success on. Terry won his first 2004 feature race at Willard Speedway on May 8th, beating names such as Jackie Boggs, David Powers, Josh McGuire, and the Bocooks. That was Terry's first win of the year but definetly not his last.

The following race at Willard, Terry would finish in a strong second behind Robbie Scott. Then on May 28th, he would come back with a third place finish behind Josh McGuire and Robbie Scott. As you can see, early in the year Terry was already starting to show great consistency, which is what would be needed to win the 2004 track championship at Willard Speedway.

Terry wasn't only consistent, but was winning races. On June 5th, Terry would get his second Willard Speedway feature win over again, a very stout field of cars. Terry would then go on to win Willard Speedway feature races on June 26th, July 3rd, and August 7th. The thing that is even more amazing about Terry's 2004 season at Willard is that in 15 races, Terry finished in the top 5 in the A-Main EVERY time!!! Terry's worst finish at Willard would be a 5th.

That would be enough to give Terry Hicks the 2004 Track Championship at Willard Speedway. That was an excellent accomplishment as Terry faced a lot of tough competition all year long at Willard. Terry would win the title by over 200 points over runner up Matt Dummit. The stats are amazing and believe it or not, that is not all Terry Hicks did this year to prove himself as a big name Late Model driver.

On Friday night, June 25th Terry Hicks would make the trip to the brand new Rocky Top Raceway in Coal Grove, Ohio for the first time. It was a rough night that night as a questionable call and a broken helmet would all go against Terry that night. But to show how great a competitor Terry Hicks is, he was back at RTR the following week and would make RTR like a second home track by racing the remainder of the year at Rocky Top on Friday nights. Terry would not win a feature race at the track but would post several top 5 finishes. After looking at some stats, Terry might of finished out of the top 10 one time at Rocky Top and that would of been on June 25th.

Another amazing thing about the 2004 season for Terry Hicks is that when Willard Speedway didn't race for about a month and a half, Terry was at the 201 Speedway in Sitka, Kentucky getting more top 5 finishes. Terry, not even running for points at 201 would end of finishing seventh in the final 2004 201 Speedway point standings. Only one word describes that, AMAZING!!!

To finish off, on Friday,September 24th, Terry would go to the Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio to race in their $3,000 to win Harvest 50. There was a total of 57 Late Models in the pits for that race with some of the competitors being Stacker 2 Xtreme DirtCar and MACS Series regulars. Terry didn't only make the feature, but finished 8th!!! That would seal the deal for anybody that thought that Terry Hicks was not a serious contender!!

As you can see, Terry has had a tremendous 2004 season and none of this came by luck, but by skill. Terry has proven to me and to several others in the Southern Ohio/Eastern Kentucky area that his is a serious contender, always a threat to take the win. To tell you some more about Terry Hicks, he is one of the cleanest drivers on the track and one of the best to talk to in the pits. So that ends the story of the 2004 season for Terry Hicks, now we can say, Terry Hicks....PROVEN HIMSELF.
